i'm not really sure how folks go about not washing their hair. this is my first foray into leaving my hair the fuck alone, and i feel sort of greasy. i bought some dry shampoo, and that helps some. my hairdresser friends say that you get used to it, and your hair does too, and that if i wait out this awful shiny period i'll be glad i did. they're the experts, so i'm deferring to them.
anyone else giving up shampoo out there? hints? tips?

I go every two or three days, mostly so I can sleep in an extra 10 minutes. Now my hair gets mad when I wash it too much. I'm sure people will be so busy noticing your awesome red that they will not ever see if it's dirty.
Manic Panic is great but hard! I was the dumbass kid who dyed her hair purple in August without prepping it first. It was a sweaty violet mess. Even my blackheads were purple.
I average once every 4-5 days, also mostly out of laziness but my hair does seem to like it better. Although sometimes I think I can go one more day and it is a horrible mistake, like today, which is why there is currently a bandana on my head...
I go about 4-5 days too, since it's pretty long (plus although I use permanent dye, reds fade and get brassy quick) and I don't use a whole lot of product, but it requires all manner of heat torture to look respectable & I'd be spending 2 hours a day on my hair (assuming I wasn't bald from all the abuse) and I have better things to do. In hot weather I have to wash it more because it gets greasy and gross looking at the roots but in cool weather it looks fine...never tried the dry shampoo but I have friends who used it and thought it was fine.
So I have no real advice, I just felt like sharing my spartan grooming habits with the internet.
I stopped using shampoo altogether about 2.5 years ago. The only time shampoo ever touches my scalp is when I go to the salon and get it tinted! I use conditioner like you would use shampoo, thoroughly scrubbing my scalp. I cover my hair to the ends and brush through and leave on while bathing. When rinsing, I scrub my scalp again very thoroughly and end up with a super clean scalp. It takes practice and getting used to before you'll able to really do it well, but it's *so* worth it. For the greasy in between time, definitely find yourself a good dry shampoo, or, poor mans dry shampoo, baby powder!
